You have many options for designing your slides. You could design them yourself or you could hire an agency like Slide Refinery. If you work in a company, you may have an in-house design department, or your company may mandate a particular agency that is already an approved supplier.
Many companies have never considered that they can use a design agency. They assume employees can create their own PowerPoint slides. This is mostly true, but there is a world of difference between slides created by a layperson and slides created by a designer.
The right option depends on how often you present, how much the deck matters, and whether you need design help, content help, or both.
Doing it yourself
- Cost: the main “cost” is your time; there may be licensing costs, for example for images or icons, but these are minimal
- Best for: internal weekly updates, routine refreshes, early drafts, reusing an agency-designed deck
- Tools: PowerPoint Designer/Copilot, Canva, Beautiful.ai, Gamma
- Limits: generic look, template fatigue, skill limitations
Hiring a slide design agency
- Cost: £300 to £15,000 per slide deck, depending on length and complexity
- Best for: one-off presentations at key project stages, external presentations, template builds, anything that requires project management or consistency across all presentations in your company
- Deliverables: usually include editable decks and multiple revision rounds, and can include a master template
- Limits: friction of the external purchasing process; corporate rules may not allow you to use an agency or send material to an external supplier
Matching the choice to the job
